Summary edit

Description

They had something called "Morning Watch." People would go off by themselves to think and meditate for a while. Then meet back at the chapel for events and services.

The camp supposedly did not allow transistor radios; like the 1960's version of unplugging.

I complied and looked forward to a week without news, but remember feeling disappointed when they broke some news to us in this chapel. The massacre of students at Jackson State University was in the news outside the camp and it became a soul searching topic.

Kent State was a more famous massacre, but this was the one at Jackson State Mississippi.

Some things about the camp were kind of spooky; like the grave of a Mr. Ford, who had donated land for the camp. He was buried there.

Off in the woods, that grave could be seen from the door of Cabin 12. People would be spooked by that prospect at night. Someone shining a flashlight through the woods, toward that grave, to tease a cabinmate.

I was glad I was never assigned to Cabin 12.

If you look closely at this picture, the wooden cross of the lakeside chapel can be seen in the woods.
