Summary edit

Description Introduced, cool-season, annual, tufted C3 grass; stems grow to 40 cm tall. Leaves are soft and to 6 mm wide. Flowerheads are 3-7 cm long. Spikelets are trimorphic and form clusters. Clusters of 1-3 sterile spikelets are common; each spikelet being 4-8-flowered. Less common are clusters of 0-1 sterile spikelets per cluster; each spikelet being 1-2-flowered. Fertile spikelets are solitary and 2-flowered. A native of the Mediterranean, it is found in disturbed areas where there is little competition. Mostly found on the Slopes and Plains, although it also occasionally occurs on the Central and North Coast.
