Italiano: Laminetta orfica, oro, 5,9 x 4,9 x 3,2 cm, Museo Archeologico Statale di Vibo Valentia. Dalla necropoli di Hipponion (attuale Vibo Valentia, in Calabria), IV secolo a. C. Il testo di 16 righe scritto in greco dice:
A Mnemosyne appartiene questo sepolcro (eroico). Appena che sarai venuto a morte / andrai alle case ben costruite di Ade: vi è sulla destra una fonte, / accanto ad essa si erge un bianco cipresso; / lì discendono le anime dei morti e cercano refrigerio. / A questa fonte non accostarti neppure; / ma più avanti troverai la fresca acqua che scorre / dal lago di Mnemosyne: vi saranno innanzi custodi / ed essi ti chiederanno in sicuro discernimento / che mai cerchi attraverso le tenebre di Ade funesto. / Dici: "Son figlio della Greve e del Cielo stellato; / di sete sono riarso e mi sento morire; ma datemi presto / la fresca acqua che scorre dal lago di Mnemosyne!". / Ed allora ti saranno misericordiosi per volere del sovrano di sotterra, / e ti daranno da bere l'acqua del lago di Mnemosyne. / Ed allora andrai lontano per la sacra via sulla quale anche gli altri / mystai e bacchoi si allontanano gloriosi.. English: en:Orphic gold leaflet from the Necropolis of Hipponion (now Vibo Valentia, en:Calabria) Ca. 400 BCE, ,9 x 4,9 x 3,2 cm, Museo Archeologico Statale di Vibo Valentia. Text: This is the work of Mnemosyne [Memory]. When you are about to die, you will find the houses of Hades. There is a spring on the right side, beside it a white cypress tree stands. There the souls of the dead come and rest. Do not go near these streams! Further you will find the cold water from the harbor of Memory.
