Français : Lancelot-Théodore Turpin de Crissé – l’un des meilleurs tenants du paysage néoclassique – livrait ici une Vue imaginaire d’un port antique (107 x 161 cm) brossée à la fin de sa vie, tout empreinte de l’idéal néo-grec en vogue dans les années 1840-1850, au trait net et aux couleurs franches. Le site représenté illustre parfaitement ce qu’avait pu être une cité fondée en Grande-Grèce, dans le sud de l’Italie, par les colons hellènes, plus de six cents ans avant J.-C., telles Messine ou Sélinonte.
