Description

Laubenganghäuser / Access Balcony Houses (façade sud)

Ces modestes immeubles d'habitation ont été les premiers construits sur la Karl-Marx-Allee (1950).

Il s'agissait de répondre en urgence aux besoins des habitants de ce quartier en grande partie détruit lors des combats avec l'armée rouge qui est entrée dans Berlin par cette voie.

Les architectes : Hans Scharoun, Herbert Klatt, Ludmilla Herzenstein, Karl Brockschmidt ont imaginé des standards constructifs (inspirés par les principes du Bauhaus) pour doter rapidement chaque appartement d'un confort simple et moderne.

Le Gouvernement de la RDA a arrêté ce programme en 1950 pour s'engager dans des constructions plus spectaculaires, voulant faire de la Karl-Marx-Allee un boulevard servant de vitrine au socialisme.
