El Petit Palais es un edificio construido en 1900 en el que se exponen colecciones artísticas desde la Antigüedad hasta 1920. También es conocido como Museo de Bellas Artes de la Ciudad de París. Ubicado entre los Campos Elíseos y Los Inválidos, el Petit Palais fue construido en torno a un precioso patio ajardinado para la Exposición Universal de 1900. Tiene un gran parecido con el Grand Palais, situado justo enfrente. Se articula en torno a un patio semicircular jardinado, con una fachada de 150 m de largo aproximadamente, centrada por un pórtico monumental coronado por una cúpula. Sus columnas jónicas, gran porche y cúpula replican la de Los Inválidos al otro lado del río. La decoración se completa con numerosos bajorrelieves. El tímpano de su fachada es obra de Jean-Antoine Injalbert y muestra una alegoría de París rendido a las musas. El palacio posee una excelente decoración en los vestíbulos y las zonas de paso, que fue elaborada durante más de veinte años. Las exposiciones se encuentran ordenadas cronológicamente, exhibiendo tanto pinturas, como esculturas y objetos decorativos procedentes de la época del Renacimiento y la Edad Media, el París del siglo XIX, o la capital durante el año 1900. Aunque el Museo del Petit Palais cuenta con exposiciones muy variadas, lo más interesante es el propio edificio, decorado de un modo muy vistoso. También merece la pena visitar el jardín central, remanso de paz donde se encuentra situada la cafetería del museo. |
