Description

Les ghats des crémations au bord de la rivière sacrée Bagmati

Depuis les terrasses du temple de Pashupatinath, vue au premier plan sur les sanctuaires de Shiva, au second plan sur les rives de la Bagmati consacrées aux crémations et au fond sur le Panch Deval (temples et centre d'aide sociale).

Le site du temple hindou dédié à Pashupatinath, une des formes de Shiva (le Maître du troupeau) est un lieu sacré pour les dévots. Ce temple en forme de pagode a été construit en 1696 au bord de la rivière Bagmati qui se jette dans le Gange, il est réservé aux seuls hindous.

C'est un lieu de crémation aussi important que Varanasi (Bénarès) pour les indiens.
