Français : Le sorgho rouge est une culture vivrière. Les graines du sorgho ressemblent à ceux du mais, leur taille mesure presque 4mm. C'est une céréale intimement liée à la monarchie burundaise car une légende dit que chaque futur roi naissait avec des semences dans la main. Parmi ces semences, il y avait des grains du sorgho. Le sorgho a une grande importance aussi dans l'alimentation des humains et des animaux grâce à sa richesse en phosphore et en protéines.
Le sorgho réduit en farine sert souvent à la fermentation de la bière de banane ou a la fabrication de sa propre bière. Les femmes et les enfants aiment manger la lie qu'on trouve au fond de la cruche qui a servi pour conserver la bière du sorgho. Parfois la farine du sorgho est consommée sous forme de la pâte qu'on accompagne avec de la viande et ou des légumes ou quelques fois avec des haricots. Mélangée avec d'autres céréales, la farine du sorgho sert à la préparation de la bouillie des petits enfants pour aboutir à un sevrage équilibré. Les tiges du sorgho servent comme fougères dans l’étable des animaux domestiques. Le sorgho rouge est riche en amidon et sa teneur en protéines est plus grande que celui du maïs. La matière grasse est présente en petite quantité. Les grains sont aussi riche en calcium, en fer et en phosphore. Sa teneur en phosphore en fait un aliment fortifiant et utile pour la constitution des cellules nerveuses et sanguins. Le sorgho est essentiel aussi pour la calcification des os. Les grains du sorgho peuvent être utilisés comme aliment spécifique de diabète grâce a sa richesse en acide soufres et en une bonne teneur en lécithine et en choline. Dans la royauté burundaise chaque année se terminait par la fête annuelle des semailles qui annonçait le début de la culture du sorgho sous la direction du roi. A cette occasion, seul le roi avait le droit de manger du sorgho. C' était un sorgho rituel, destiné à la confection de la pâté sacrée du sorgho. L a fête durait huit jours et on battait les tambours tous les jours. Les habitants de la cour royale faisaient la fête en buvant la bière de sorgho et de banane en chantant sous le rythme du tambour.
