Summary edit

Description
English: Leamington Spa signal box. This unremarkable building contains Leamington Spa signal box which controls the railway as far as Warwick, onto the line towards Coventry and southwards to Banbury. It is however of technological significance in that it was the first operational installation of a revolutionary British designed all electronic signal interlocking (Solid State Interlocking or SSI). Up until this time signal boxes were either purely mechanical or relied upon electro-mechanical equipment for safety. Needless to say the technology is vastly more secure and better tested than that in the PCs familiar to most people!
