Legerwood Carved Memorial Trees by Ringarooma Road

Summary edit

Description
English: In 2005, the small village of Legerwood gained recognition when Eddie Freeman from Ross sculpted trees with his chainsaw as a World War I memorial; originally planted in a 1918 ceremony to honor soldiers in the railway reserve at Ringarooma Road (later renamed Legerwood), the trees grew dangerously tall and required lopping. Faced with preserving the memorial, the Legerwood community opted for an innovative solution, commissioning Mr. Freeman to carve representations of the honored soldiers on the remaining trunks. These tree carvings are situated in a charming public park with excellent amenities, just a short detour off the main highway, each accompanied by a plaque narrating the history of the respective soldiers.
