CHASE THROUGH SPRING HILL

When two detectives saw two young men in Spring Hill on Tuesday with small parcels under their arms, they became suspicious and gave chase. The pursuit led over the fences of several private properties until one of the youths was captured; his companion escaped.

Such was the story outlined by Detective Senior-sergeant T. M. Brannelly in the Police Court yesterday when John Mortimer, otherwise John Patrick Kinnane (19), labourer, was charged before Mr. J. Stewart Berge, P.M., with having, on July 21, stolen four boxes of cigarette papers, valued at £3/18/, the property of Comino Brothers.

The defendant pleaded guilty, and was fined £1, in default 14 days' imprisonment. He was allowed seven days to pay the fine. Kinnane was, also charged on summons with having in his' possession, on January 21, without lawful excuse, an unemployment registration ticket issued to T. Bushell.

'I had no intention of using the card or defrauding the Government,' said the defendant, in pleading guilty. He was fined £1 and 6/ costs, In de fault 14 days' imprisonment, and was allowed 14 days to pay the fine.
