Description

Le Yantra Raj fait partie du Jantar Mantar

Le Yantra Raj est un double astrolabe géant. Chaque disque (plus de 2m de diamètre) est percé d'un trou central marquant l'emplacement de l'étoile polaire. Au-dessus, à 27°, se trouve une ligne correspondant à la latitude de Jaipur.

Le Jantar Mantar à Jaipur est un observatoire astronomique, qui a été bâti en 1728-1733 à la demande du maharaja Jai Singh II (1688-1743), grand amateur d'art, féru d'astronomie et d'architecture. Les instruments de mesure d'origine hindoue sont tous en maçonnerie.
