Title
Letter from Fritz Haber to Georg Bredig, May 1928
Description
Letter from Fritz Haber (1868-1934) to Georg Bredig (1868-1944), May 23, 1928. Appears to be a carbon copy Haber sent to Max Albert Bredig (1902-1977) in Munich. Haber informs Georg Bredig that he can offer Bredig's son, Max, a position in his laboratory, the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Physical Chemistry and Electrochemistry, in Berlin. Max Bredig would receive 300 Marks per month, the position would begin on October 1, 1928, and he would report exclusively to Haber himself. Max Bredig would need to take X-rays of various structures, and in this regard he would work and publish with [Karl] Weissenberg. He would also take X-rays for other members of the institute as necessary. If Max Bredig were to show initiative and carry out independent research, Haber would encourage him to pursue his Habilitation, the second dissertation required to teach at German universities. While Georg Bredig might have heard that Karl Weissenberg preferred that his former coworker, Mr. von Susich, be offered the position, Fritz Haber believes Max Bredig is more suitable for the post. and would be delighted if he accepted it. Haber requests that Max Bredig decide if he will accept the position by the end of Pentecost week (i.e. approx. June 2, 1928).
