English: Tells Eliot that he has received a message from General Sherman requesting six thousand shirts, combs, etc., and that everything is ready.
Transcription: Western Sanitary Commission, No. 10 NORTH FIFTH STREET. St. Louis, Sept 30 1864 Dear Dr I to day recd [received] the enclosed dispatch from Genl Sherman have six thousand Shirts ready to ship with scissors combs & have addd [additional] Buttons, thread, needles, Pins, and [word unclear]. have telegraphed him the numbers, and stated that more could be sent if necessary. I send you this [word unclear] that you would be interested in learning it. Every thing is ready and waiting on QuarterMaster. Take care of yourself this[?] damp weather— truly Yrs J E. Y—[James E.
