Transcription: York Pa July 7th 1864 Dear Father and mother
I take my pen in hand for the perpose of writing a few lines to let you know that I am well and also to let you know the news I have never seen as much excitement pravleid[prevailed?] in my life as thare does here the last too or three days it is reported here that thare is thurty thousand Rebels in this state they crossed the Rapahanick[Rappahannock] near harpers Ferry the people are runing in every direction with their horses and stock of all kinds they are like a set of crazy folks I doant know
