This silk embroidered ribbon featuring the Statue of Liberty was a souvenir for visitors to the Exposition Universelle held in Paris in 1878. Sculpted by Auguste Bartholdi, the head of the statue was displayed at the exposition in the garden of the Champ de Mars.
