Deutsch: 1: Rigoletto - Rigoletto dingt den Sparafucile, um den Fürsten zu töten.
Giuseppe Verdi, einer der größten neueren Musiker Italiens, ward am 10. Oktober 1813 zu Roncole, einem Weiler der Gemeinde Busseto bei Parma geboren und starb am 27. Januar 1901 zu Mailand. Eine der erfolgreichsten Opern Verdis war Rigoletto, zuerst 1851 zu Venedig aufgeführt, deren Stoff Viktor Hugos Trauerspiel »Le roi s'amuse« entnommen ist. Die hier abgebildete Szene spielt in einer Dorfschenke auf dem rechten Ufer des Mincio bei Mantua. Rigoletto, der Hofnarr des Herzogs von Mantua, will die von diesem Fürsten verletzte Ehre seiner Tochter Gilda rächen. Er dingt deshalb um zwanzig Dukaten den Wirt Sparafucile, einen berüchtigten Raufbold, der den schuldigen Herzog aus dem Wege räumen soll. Dieser wird durch die schöne Tochter des Wirts verlockt, sich als Hauptmann der herzoglichen Reiterei verkleidet nach der Wirtschaft zu begeben. Gilda rettet ihn jedoch um den Preis ihres Lebens.
