Summary edit

Description
English: Lincoln Castle, Lincoln. The East Gate - This is the main entrance to the castle and originally was a plain Norman arch built into a recess in the wall. Years later it was strengthened by a gatehouse and two round turrets. There was also a dry moat, drawbridge and portcullis, which were demolished in 1791. The castle is now owned by Lincolnshire County Council and is a scheduled ancient monument. At the gate is a gift shop. The Crown Court, at the far end of the green, still dispenses justice.
