| Description | Linden Avenue Terminal in Wilmette (1913). The Northwestern Elevated Railroad announced plans to constuct a station in Wilmette in early 1912. However, Wilmette town officials refused. During the night on April 1, the company had a construction crew secretly construct a small platform with a short spur track just south of Linden Avenue. Citizens awoke to find a rapid transit connection to Chicago. Depite the predictions of town officials, the station was a great success, an a more permanent station was approved in 1913. |
