Summary edit

Description
English: Little Britain Street Entrance to St Bartholomew's Church This 13th century archway in Little Britain was once the door of the church of St Bartholomew-the-Great. This is London's oldest parish church which survived Henry the VIII dissolution, the 1666 City of London Great Fire and the WWII blitz. It is built around the only surviving part of a Norman priory which was established in 1123 by a monk named Rahere. Rahere was court jester to Henry I, and having almost died of malaria on a pilgrimage to Rome, was so grateful for his recovery that on his return to England, he built a hospital, priory and church dedicated to St Bartholomew.
