Summary edit

Description
English: The Lloyd Apartment building, once located at 1712 Broadway in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood. Built in 1907 for veteran Pacific Coast mariner Captain Howell H. Lloyd (1837-1920). Lloyd arrived in Puget Sound in the mid-1850s, where at age 23 he became master of the schooner General Harney, the first freighter built on the sound which was used to deliver the foundation stones for the original University of Washington building. Lloyd would later run the San Francisco and Alaska routes, ferrying miners and provisions between Seattle and Nome during the Yukon gold rush. He had this apartment building built as an investment the same year he retired from the sea. The architect of the eclectic Spanish-inspired façade is unfortunately unknown. The building was purchased by Seattle Community College in 1969, who would demolish it several years later as they expanded their campus. The building on the right would survive for another decade as the campus bookstore.
