Summary edit

Description
English: Eastern stained glass window in the Locherer Family Chapel in the Freiburg Minster, donated by the cleric Nikolaus Locherer and his relatives in 1520. Copy by Fritz Geiges made ca. 1920 after the original, which was made in Freiburg based on designs presumably by Hans Baldung and is kept today in Freiburg's Augustinermuseum.

The left field shows the temptation of St. Anthony the Great, who lived in the desert as an anchorite and is known as the Father of All Monks. According to legend, the saint was plagued in the desert by the devil and his demonic following. Here the horrid beings torture the bearded saint, who tries to drive them away with a bell. Above this scene, God the Father appears half-length in a wreath of clouds. The Locherer family crest with a seashell and pilgrim's staff is in the lower left.

The right-hand field shows the Cistercian monk Bernard of Clairvaux in a brown habit, kneeling before and receiving in his arms the crucified Jesus, who is leaning toward him. This portrayal derives from the pious saint's meditations on the sufferings of Jesus. The coat of arms of the Cistercian Order is to the right of the cross.
