Summary edit

Description
English: Locks on Erie Canal at Lockport, NY.

The Erie Canal is a man-made waterway in New York that runs about 363 miles from Albany on the Hudson River to Buffalo at Lake Erie, built between 1817 and 1832. The route followed the channel of a creek that had cut a ravine steeply down the Niagara escarpment, with two sets of five locks in a series, giving rise to the community of Lockport.

The famous south "flight of five" locks were replaced by two much larger locks E34 and E35. The north "flight of five" lock chambers still remain as a spill way.
