Summary edit

Description Lot-3762-3: A big American freight locomotive is lowered onto its waiting wheels in the repair shops of a large U.S. transcontinental railroad. Every piece of railroad equipment that can be used has been pressed into service to meet the war demands of the United Nations. Since the last war, 1918, U.S. locomotives have greatly increased in size and power, but at the same time, burn less fuel with 25% more efficiency. These freight engines frequently haul trains one and half miles long over the western plains. Office of War Information Photograph. Courtesy of the Library of Congress. (2017/05/19).
