| Description |
English: Locomotive Depot, Stafford Road, Wolverhampton, 1962 View westward from a passing train on the ex-LNWR main line just north of Wolverhampton High Level station - the ex-GWR Low Level closed 6/3/72 - on the main line to Stafford and the North. Until the mid-1960s, you had a fleeting, but fascinating, glimpse of the large, crowded Locomotive Depot next to the major Stafford Road Works. It closed in September 1963 (the Works in March 1965), the whole area being cleared and virtually unrecognisable now. The Shed (84A) had an allocation (in 1954) of 61:- 31 4-6-0, 1 2-6-0, 9 2-6-2T, 1 0-6-2T and 19 0-6-0T. Here in the centre are Collett 4-6-0s: 'Hall' class No. 5925 'Eastcote Hall' (5/33 - 10/62) and 'Castle' class No.7006 'Lydford Castle' (6/46 - 12/63). |
