The di-mensions and disposition of the longi-tudinal sills have evidently been chosenwith the view of having a body bolsterthat would be equal to the duty imposedon it. A depth of 12 inches at the outsideand center sills, and 9 inches at the inter-mediate sills, together with the distanceof 45 inches outside of the latter sills,allows of a double plate bolster of anexceptional strength and rigidity, by-passing the intermediate sills through be-tween plates without reduction of thewood, thus giving a depth of bolster ofinches for a distance of 22l/2 incheseach side of the center line. Both mem-bers of the bolster pass over and underthe sills, respectively, and have malleable-iron fillers between the plates. Malleable iron enters largely into thedetails of the car, as is the practice ofthis road for all freight equipment. Foxtrucks are used in these cars.
