Neverstil (sometimes spelled Neverstill or Never-Still) was a company town and logging community. According to Oregon Geographic Names (Lewis A. McArthur), the name was coined by Albert S. Kerry, the president of the Kerry Timber Company, who was also responsible for the construction of the Columbia & Nehalem River Railroad in 1913. The railroad ran 25 miles east from the Columbia River to the town of Neverstil and served many logging companies along the way. The town was the site of the company railroad shops for the Kerry Timber Company as well as the location for other logging operations. The Neverstil Shingle Company was incorporated in 1922 with a capital of $25,000 (American Lumberman, January 28th, 1922). The company appears to have been based in Kerry, Oregon in Columbia County with a mill and logging camp located at Neverstil.
