Americans were no exception to the rule. Onthe proposition being made to them, they bothstated that the poor mother or mothers couldhave not only two rupees, but five! The good host erected a platform aboutseven feet high at a sixty foot range from thewater, for the convenience of the shootingparty. When evening came they were verymuch surprised at the nuimber of sick babiesthere were on hand; in fact, it looked as if aterrible epidemic had struck the district. The party mounted the platform, rifles inhand. Three pieces of animated bait wereplaced about twenty feet from the water. Nosooner did the trio commence to sing, thanthere was a violent commotion in the river.Four huge crocodiles soon appeared, wendingtheir way rapidly towards the bait. Bang!bang! bang! went the rifles.
