Description
English: Lombard goldsmith's grave goods from Poysdorf, Grave 6
  • Poysdorf, District of Misteldorf, Lower Austria

Disturbed burial of a goldsmith positioned stretched out on his back, with weapons and tools as grave goods. Together with the goldsmith's grave of Brno-Kotlářská and the smith's grave from Kölked-Feketekapu A, this is one of the extremely rare smiths' graves of the Migration Period. Especially noteworthy are the two bronze models for producing casting molds for the characteristic Lombard S-shaped fibulae.

1. Small stake anvil of iron.
2. Two iron hammers.
3. Iron smith's tongs.
4. Iron file rod with right-angled bronze ring for holding and clamped bronze strips.
5. Iron padlock.
6. Bronze tweezer.
7. Two bronze models of an S-shaped fibula and a fibula in the shape of an animal head with a rectangular top plate with five knobs.
8. Touchstone for testing the degree of purity of metals.
9. Four-sided iron file with wood remains from the handle.

  • Photographed while on display from 22 August 2008 to 11 January 2009 in the exhibition "Die Langobarden. Das Ende der Völkerwanderung" at the Rheinisches LandesMuseum Bonn. On loan from the Prehistoric Division of the Naturhistorisches Museum Wien.

8. Probierstein zur Überprüfung des Reinheitsgrades von Metallen.
9. Vierkantige Eisenfeile mit Holzresten vom Stiel.

  • Exponate in der Ausstellung „Die Langobarden. Das Ende der Völkerwanderung“ vom 22.08.2008-11.01.2009 im Rheinischen LandesMuseum Bonn. Leihgaben von der Prähistorischen Abteilung, Naturhistorisches Museum, Wien.
