DescriptionLonesome Pine - geograph.org.uk - 1630636.jpg |
English: Lonesome Pine This single Scots Pine (Pinus sylvestris) is one of a few left here at Brereton Heath. At one time the whole area was wooded with these pines (native to Britain), which were felled during the First World War for pit-props- although not an original tree from them this example will probably be a naturally regenerated descendant of those first plants. It looks as if it is growing in frozen tundra, but in fact this is just a small boggy area that has iced up during a long wintry spell. |
