DescriptionLooking northeast from the Friary Hills towards Blakeney Eye - geograph.org.uk - 166455.jpg |
English: Looking northeast from the Friary Hills towards Blakeney Eye. The Friary Hills are a small heathland area just outside the precinct wall of the ruined Blakeney's Carmelite Friary. In the distance is the shingle ridge leading to Blakeney Point. In Tudor times the grazing marshes in the middle distance were open estuary leading to the silted up port at Cley. Legends tell of secret tunnels leading from Blakeney Quay under the Friary Hills for the smuggling of monkish contraband. |
