DescriptionLord Pirbright's Hall - geograph.org.uk - 49736.jpg |
English: Lord Pirbright's Hall. You can't get away from Lord Pirbright in the village from which he took his title. Many of the houses and other buildings bear the letter P and a coronet. Lord Pirbright's hall was built in 1899 and given to the village two years later to commemorate the accession of King Edward VII. To the right of the picture is the drinking fountain which Lord and Lady Pirbright presented to the villagers to mark Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in 1897. It is in the form of a bronze statue of a girl reading a book. Lord Pirbright was born Henry de Worms. He served as a minister in Lord Salisbury's governments and was made a peer in 1895. He lived at Henley Park, on the road to Aldershot. |
