English: Special Award for Achievement through Adversity: SC John Power, Bedfordshire Police. John is a double-lung transplant recipient and has overcome cystic fibrosis to become the UK’s first Special Constable dog handler with his own dog purchased by Bedfordshire Special Constabulary. John recently became an NPCC accredited Explosive Search Dog Detection Team. This followed an 8 week residential course at the Surrey Police Dog School which focused on training the team to search for explosives under a variety of different circumstances. The team are also trained to deal with bomb threat searches including offensive and defensive counter terrorism searching.
