| Description | Lot-11573-2: North African Campaign, November 1942 to May 1943. A Presidential wreath decorates an American cemetery in North Africa. Near the entrance to the Kasbah Megdia, ancient Portuguese fortress near Port Lyautey around which fighting raged for three days when the Americans landed in French Morocco in November, is the U.S.A Military Cemetery, so designated by an entrance signboard in French, English and Arabic. Against the flagpole there, President Roosevelt’s party placed a wreath during Mr. Roosevelt’s tour in North Africa. Close to the flagpole appear white crosses marking the graves of American soldier dead; behind them are the French graves. Photographed probably late January 1943.
