Description Lot-11620-8: Allied Air Raids in Europe, WWII. Reconnaissance photograph showing the distillation and cracking plant of the Columbia Aquila refinery completely smashed after a raid by B-24 Liberator bombers of the U.S. Army Air Force. Smoke is still rising from one of the many burnt out oil storage tanks. Damage is also visible on railway sidings and among storage buildings alongside, August 1, 1943.
