Description Lot-805-22(42508-LC-USZ62-97659): Operation Husky - Invasion of Sicily, 9 July – August 17, 1943. After The Storm. Only a few days after the opening of the Sicilian invasion, the beach near Scoglitti presented this peaceful appearance as USS LCI(L) 196 (landing craft, infantry) and an amphibious vehicle drew up to deliver and take on loads – the scene proving impressive evidence of the speed of the Allied progress inland. Photograph released August 3, 1943. Photographed through Mylar sleeve. U.S. Navy Photograph. Also at NHHC as NH 97260.(2015/10/30).
