Description Lot-824-2: WWII-Atlantic Convoys. U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Sinks Sub. Coast Guardsmen, wounded during a furious battle in the North Atlantic which resulted in the sinking of a German U-Boat, are transferred from the Coast Guard Cutter Spencer (WPG-36) to a sister ship for immediate removal to a port hospital. Motor Machinist’s Mate Robert J. Croak, his left hand supported by a wife frame and pins inserted in his fingers, is transferred from Spencer, with Dr. John Davies, assistant surgeon, U.S. Public Health Service, supervising the operation.
