Summary edit

Description Lot-9432-15: Maker of the Norden Bombsight Gets Navy “E” for Excellence. At a New York City Hotel as Donald M. Nelson, (left foreground), United States War Production Board chief, awarded the coveted U.S. Navy “E” to executives of Carl L. Norden, Inc., makers of the internationally famed Norden bombsight. In his presentation address, Nelson said that Washington officials are beginning to get thrilled by the figures showing the enormous quantity of war materials rolling from American assembly lines. Of the Norden bombsight, specifically, Captain Joseph J. Clark, USN, (center), said, “If you (employees of Norden) could have seen our bombardiers unloading, you would know why we of the fleet think you are in the Navy too.” The “E” has been the Navy’s symbol of excellence for more than 40 years.
