Summary edit

Description Lot-9432-2: Christened with a bottle of champagne swung by Crown Princess Martha of Norway and dedicated as “a symbol of ultimate victory,” the 10,500-ton liberty ship, St. Olaf, slides down the ways into the water at an East Coast U.S. Shipyard. Wilhelm Morgenstierne, Norwegian Minister to the U.S. and chief speaker on the occasion, declared that Norway’s Merchant Marine, like America’s, is fighting “for freedom and the Christian way of living.” Office of War Information Photograph, 9-15 April 1942.
