Description Lot 11588-44: North African Campaign. Bir Hakeim Warriors, 26 May-21 June 1942: Jubilant Free French Reach British Lines. The stand of the Free French forces at Bir Hakeim, Libya, for sixteen days, in face of continual armored and air attacks became an epic of the war. Practically surrounded, and short of supplies, they finally were withdrawn by General Ritchie. Three times they refused to surrender. On the night of June 10, taking their guns and prisoners with them, they fought their way out. Free French troops from Bir Hakeim arriving in the British lines.
