| Description | Lot 838-A-1: Time Out for Chow. Most important item in the field is food. These United States Marines normally stationed at San Juan, Puerto Rico, are in the “chow” line at a camp area in the Caribbean National Forest. Mess gear in hand, they’re ready for a big meal after a tough 15 miles of hiking. The 15 miles was part of a 90-mile hike in six days and periodic maneuvers for Marines stationed in the Caribbean, circa WWII. U.S. Marine Corps Photograph. Courtesy of the Library of Congress.
