Summary
editDescriptionLoughton tube station - geograph.org.uk - 549232.jpg |
English: Loughton tube station. Designed by John Murray Easton for the London & North Eastern Railway, on behalf of London Transport, and opened in 1940, this is the third location of a railway station in Loughton. The original Eastern Counties Railway branch line to Loughton was built in 1856 and terminated near Lopping Hall 548944. When the line was extended to Epping and Ongar in 1865, the station was moved some 500 metres further south. The current station was then built a little way north along the track. The building is Grade II listed and its barrel vault design echoes Kings Cross station. It is on the Central Line. |
