DescriptionLower99DecFloridaBreach4.jpg |
English: Lower 9th Ward, New Orleans. Ongoing temporary repairs to Industrial Canal levee breaches. Shown is the breach just in from Florida Avenue viewed from the north. In foreground, a pile of debris beside an intact portion of concrete floodwall. Visible are the partially repaired levee structure, with contractor or Corps of Engineers trailer. Lower fill on the Canal side of the levee; note that before Hurricane Katrina there was a street and wharfs on the Canal side of the levee of which no visible trace remains (unless the debris in the foreground is from them).
Warehouses & wharfs visible on opposite side of the canal. Towers of Claiborne Avenue Bridge over the Canal visible in the distance at right. At center distance are the Crescent City Connection pair of bridges over the Mississippi River. At distance at right are the highrises of the New Orleans Central Business District. |
