Traditionally believed to have descended in the family of Johann Henckel (d. 1539), confessor to Mary, Queen of Hungary (1505-1558), to James Henckell (d. 1823), and through his daughter Caroline (1788-1869), who married William du Buisson (1781-1828), Glynhir, Carmarthenshire, South Wales, and by inheritance to

Thomas Gerard du Buisson (b. 1892), Snower Hill, Betchworth, Surrey, by 1925, and by descent in the family.
Exhibition history Dublin, Municipal Gallery, Exhibition of Paintings from Private Collections in Ireland, 20 May-25 August 1957, no. 80 as ‘Cranach’.
