This portrait is part of a diptych with the Portrait of his father, 'Johann the Steadfast'. John Frederick of Saxony, Magnonimous, whose mother died at his birth is painted at the age of six. His hat is decorated with ostrich feathers and brooches. He holds a small dagger in his hands.
