Description
Deutsch: Foto der Luftaufklärung der US Forces, 1944. Umlaufberg / Mäander bei Lauffen am Neckar, Baden-Württemberg. Die große Flussschleife wurde erst im Holozän (vor gut 2000 Jahren) abgeschnürt (Zeitraum durch Schotter im Flussbett verifiziert). Der Verlauf des alten Flussbettes ist manuell ergänzt. Im Nordwesten und Osten wurde der Talboden für Gartenbau genutzt, die Hänge für Weingartenterrassen. Im Westen und im Süden hat sich die alte Neckarschleife um 25 bis 70 m, im Osten um max. 30 m in die Landschaft eingeschnitten.

English: Aerial image of river Neckar at Lauffen am Neckar Baden-Württemberg. This image of US Forces reconnaissance in World War II, 1944, shows river Neckar’s actual course. The cut meander is added for demonstration’s purpose. The cut at Lauffen happened only recently (in Holocene) about 2000 years ago. In earth science such recent erosional events in Europe are rare.
