Summary edit

Description
English: The Lumberman Picnics were held each summer in the late 1940s and early 1950s around the hamlet of Cloyne, usually at the Barrie Township Hall, but could be found in Tweed and at the head of Mazinaw Lake. At the Barrie Hall many boards were laid out on sawhorses in the pine grove where the Museum now sits, to accommodate all the wonderful food. There were skill testing competitions of log rolling in Benny's Lake, sawing and more.

The "picnics" were sponsored by the local Sawyer-Stoll Lumber Mill. They drew huge crowds (possibly up to 10,000) including the picnic in 1947 when Barbara Ann Scott was a distinguished guest. She can be seen on a float coming along behind the pipe band. This photo was taken in front of Harvey Spencers (now Grand's) General Store on Highway #41. Barbara Ann Scott was Canada's new heroine having just won two world figure skating championships. The next year she won an Olympic Gold Medal for figure skating- a first for Canada!
