English: 1928. Post and village of Luvungi (60 km south of Bukavu). Here is the road that, starting from Kalundu (at Lake Tanganyika), passed through Uvira, followed the railway track until the foot of the Kamaniola escarpment, and then connected to Bukavu in a very winding route. In Luvungi, there was a hotel/bar, a guesthouse managed by the well-known "Bwana François," and later by the Gerondal family (known as Tuttut... Mrs.'s nickname). In 1950, the road was paved from Luvungi to Lake Tanganyika by the Italian company Ruvir. |
