Nederlands: Bijbelse verhalen waren eeuwenlang een populair onderwerp voor tegeltjes als deze: Jezus trok zich veertig dagen terug in de woestijn om te vasten. Daar werd hij bezocht door de duivel, hier met bokkenpootjes en dunne hoorntjes. De duivel deed drie vergeefse pogingen om Jezus voor zich te winnen. Jezus werd voor zijn vasthoudendheid door engelen beloond met voedsel en zorg. De christelijke vastentijd van veertig dagen is hiervan afgeleid.
