Complete, modern ANZAC medal. It is circular in shape and made of copper alloy. The obverse of the medal features the bust of George V facing left, mint initials on truncation, S&S, Legend above bust reads ‘For King And Country’. Date ‘1916’ in exergue. The reverse features the letters ‘ANZAC’ (Acronym for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) in the centre within a wreath. Legend reads ‘Dept. of Education. Victoria. Lest We Forget. 25 April 15’. This medal was issued in 1916, it was struck by the Education Department of Victoria for distribution to school children in 1916 to commemorate the first anniversary of ANZAC day. The ANZAC forces first landed at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915. It is very worn, and a lot of the writing is illegible. It has a dark grey patina. Found with a more modern type chain still attached, possibly repurposed as a keepsake. It weighs 9.9g and has a diameter of 27.00mm.
